Where our team of editors discuss what they think about the current BM issues.

Q. Can you give us a brief overview of what your solution does?
A. We solve the problem of too much data and too little access for a variety of companies and industries. Our Quick Response Database (QRD) takes the data from any ODBC-compliant databases (Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, etc.), compresses it to a size that it can fit on a user’s desktop or laptop and allows business users to do ad hoc queries against this compressed database, 24/7, using their current query tools – without being tied to a network.
Q. What benefits does this offer to users?
A. Once the PCs have downloaded their copy, they can disconnect from the corporate network and perform their queries locally. Users can query their local copy of the compressed database at any time of the day or night from any location, without requiring any network connectivity. Leveraging our patented compression and query optimization solution, local query performance is significantly faster than queries run against the legacy database. Additionally, with the help of QD Technology, companies can now put more information and analytics capabilities in the hands of decision-makers not in the office, but where decisions need to be made, in front of customers, traveling, etc.
Q. How do you resolve the conflicts introduced by multiple users attempting to modify the same records at the same time?
A. The database copies that reside on users’ PCs are read-only by design. The copies are read-only to the PC on which they reside, but incremental updates can routinely be sent to the database from the loader. Because the database is read-only, users see significant improvement in query performance and flexibility.
Q. What applications can QRD be used for?
A. Any application in which access to larger amounts of data, regardless of location, has significant value to the organization. Our Quick Response Database can be used in almost any size business that has a large and busy transaction-oriented database such as financial services, healthcare, consumer goods, government, public sector, data providers and marketing organizations, and we think it represents the start of a new approach to database management and user productivity. We continue to add new customers every month with new applications in the area of field sales analytics and marketing database analytics as well.
